2024 NFHS Football Rules Changes

Prior to each high school football season, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) votes on an approves rule changes for the upcoming season. In February of 2024 NFHS released its changes for the 2024 high school football season, along with its points of emphasis. Keep in mind that it’s up to each state association to adopt and/or modify these rules as it sees fit.

What are the rule changes for the 2024 high school football season?

There is one rule change for the 2024 season.

  • Clarified Home Team Uniform Requirement For Each Player [1-5-1b(3)] — The jerseys of the home team shall all be the same dark color(s) that clearly contrasts with white.

For PIAA football officials, the PIAA also adopted the following rule changes.

  • Any Coach and/or adult Team Personal removed, ejected or disqualified from a Contest who refuses to leave the competition area (out of sight and sound) as directed by the Contest Official will result in a forfeiture of the Contest.
  • The Team Box for Players, Coaches and all team personal will revert to having them all be inside the team box between the 25-yard lines.
